The current nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation regime based on the NPT - Non Proliferation Treaty is in the middle of a deep crisis. Some of the signs are:

• Non compliance of disarmament commitments by NWS (Nuclear Weapons States)
• Resistance to increasing restrictions by NNWS (Non Nuclear Weapons States)
• Exceptions for non NPT States, such as India
• Resistance to the signature of the IAEA - Model Additional Protocol (strengthen safeguards)

The NPT will be reviewed in 2010, and it will define the regime's future.
