The article estimates the yield of the nuclear device tested in North Korea on May 25, 2009 taking as a basis seismic data recorded by several national and international organizations, including the International Data Center of the Provisional Technical Secretariat of CTBTO, the US Geological Survey and the Japan Meteorological Agency, and historical information about past nuclear tests.
The author, Martin Kalinowski, a nuclear physicist and peace researcher, is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker Center for Science and Peace Research of the Hamburg University.
