Odair Dias Gonçalves, Camilo Reyes, Olli Heinonen, Alfredo Labbé, Odilon Marcuzzo do Canto
Main topics discussed during the session were the right of Non Nuclear Weapon States of carrying out nuclear activities with peaceful purposes, and how that right should be managed in practice, assuming its inalienable nature, defined by the NPT.
During the session were debated key issues such as the status of the verification scheme responsibility of the IAEA, the specific needs of the named multilateral organization in order to a better fulfilment of its role, and universalizing of the Additional Protocol, as a more restrictive standard for a nonproliferation control, and condition of nuclear supply.
The successful ABACC's experience, and its potential expansion to a regional environment were highlighted on a special presentation.
Ideas about impacts on the 2010 NPT Review were also shared among the experts, and with the public.
