In July 2008 Irma Arguello was invited to participate in the 20th International Summer Symposium on Science and World Affairs, which took place in Boston from 25 July to 1 August, 2008.

The main goal of the annual Summer Symposium is to encourage and support the development of young scientists working on policy-oriented research on international security and arms control issues.

The central purpose is to encourage the development of such analysts mostly in countries where there is not a strong tradition of public interest science, and to integrate them into the international community of researchers with similar interests and backgrounds.

Since the first Symposium in 1989, subsequent meetings have been held in Russia, the United States, China, Germany, and Ukraine.

Participants have included more than 300 scientists and researchers from Belarus, Britain, Canada, China, Germany, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United States.
